*The Literacy Empowerment Initiative is a two-part, intergenerational endeavor which aims to promote reading, writing, and comprehension within the urban community. It consists of a ten-week photo campaign and culminates at a free community-based literacy fair.

The photo campaign is comprised of four main themes: "Families Read", "Celebrities Read", "Black Men Read", and "Reading is Sexy". The campaign will be primarily social media driven with the goal to break records for postings on several social sites.  The photo campaign aims to be a "conversation starter" within the community, raising awareness of the importance of a literacy focus at home, and for more literacy focused programming in schools and churches. The initiative hopes to promote current local resources through literacy based projects throughout the Philadelphia region while encouraging grass roots organizations and services to incorporate a literacy focus in their offerings.

The Literacy Empowerment Fair is a free, intergenerational community-based endeavor themed "Christmas in July", primarily to cultivate the gifts of reading and writing in our community. Consisting of an interactive panel, resource vendors, reading/writing assessments, live performances, story tellers, and tons of indoor/outdoor Christmas themed activities, the fair will bring the community together in an enthusiastic way to focus on a topic which affects each member collectively.
